The Lighthouse Soccer League (LSL) works hard to create a playing environment that fosters good sportsmanship. We believe that good sportsmanship is defined as those qualities of behavior, which are characterized by generosity and genuine concern for others. Good sportsmanship is viewed by the LSL as a concrete measure of the understanding and commitment to fair play, ethical behavior and integrity of our coaches, our players, and our spectators.
Coaches
- Follow the rules of soccer as defined by FIFA and the LSL.
- Accept the decisions of league officials and their assigned representatives.
- Avoid offensive gestures or language.
- Display modesty in victory and graciousness in defeat.
- Avoid public criticism of league officials and/or their assigned representatives.
- Teach sportsmanship and acknowledge players that display good sportsmanship.
- Provide instruction, training, and motivation without put-downs and/or the use of abusive language.
- Educate and sensitize themselves to cultural differences, gender equity and disability issues.
Athletes
- Show respect at all times for coaches, opponents and league officials and their designated representatives.
- Accept the decisions of all designated officials.
- Avoid offensive gestures or language.
- Display modesty in victory and graciousness in defeat.
- Follow the rules of the game.
- Show respect for public property and equipment.
Spectators
- Avoid criticism of league officials and their designated representatives (coaches, refs, and anyone acting on behalf of the LSL)
- Avoid sideline coaching which may distract the athletes from their performance.
- Stay off the playing area.
- Show respect for public property and equipment by adhering to all school and league rules.
- Promote good sportsmanship by being excellent role models.
Failure to adhere to this code of conduct may result in eviction from the game and/or playing area depending on the severity of the misconduct
